"Autumn Leaves" is the English-language lyrical adaptation of the French song "Les Feuilles mortes" ("The Dead Leaves") composed by Joseph Kosma in 1945. The original lyrics were written by Jacques Prévert in French, and in 1950 Johnny Mercer wrote the English lyrics.
This was the first actual "lullaby" I sang to Yonah because he became my Life on the 13th October 2020, a typical Autumn day, grey skies, cool air, rain. "Our" lyrics reflect the "love" I have for him and how, though that was a Hellish day for him in so many ways, this is a way to focus on "rescue", safety, protection that I'm here to ensure he has for the rest of his life. I was BLESSED, HUMBLED, PRIVILEGED to be there for him at what must have been the absolute worst experience for ANY living being. We don't "celebrate" the day because of the atrocity but we DO celebrate his recovery, healing and survival when the world just wanted to abandon him.
